Is Snoring Surgery Necessary?

June 29th, 2009

I often here people bring up things like snoring surgery to describe a solution to their problem. It is true that surgery is used in a small minority of cases when it comes to snoring. I definitely can’t rule it out for you because it could very well be a physical issue that can only be solved with surgery. The fact is that virtually all people don’t need surgery. Only a small minority will. The issue here is that people always assume their snoring problem is the worst and they are a special snow flake with a real problem.

It’s much more probable that you’re just like everyone else and you can fix this problem without ever turning to snoring surgery. The point of surgery is that you have something in your throat that is continuously vibrating. That’s what all people have when they snore, but this is really a problem with the size of the tissue. For whatever reason it is much larger than it should be and nothing you can do will ever solve it. That is the case where snoring surgery would be necessary, but it’s best to just assume that you don’t have that kind of problem.

I think the best way to go is by getting a Jaw Supporter. This device will fix your problem. If it doesn’t than you should probably have a discussion with your doctor to see if surgery might be an option. That shouldn’t be necessary because the jaw supporter is based off the newest science and helps to expand the space in your throat (preventing a lot of vibrations).

Snoring Solutions Aren’t That Tough

June 8th, 2009

One of the big excuses that I hear from people is that it is too hard to fix this problem. It will take too much work or too much time or too much money. Whatever that may be, it’s just an excuse. Nothing is actually based on factual information or anything remotely related to snoring. I get it though. It’s always easy to do nothing. It’s easy to live with this problem because you don’t have to listen to it while you sleep. That’s not easy for the people around you that have to listen to it, but for you it is easy. I think you should stop the excuses because snoring solutions aren’t that tough.

Snoring occurs because your throat constricts while you’re asleep. It is this constriction that leads to more rapid air speeds and hence more vibration. It is the vibration that translates into sounds that people will inevitably hear. Opening up the throat area is much easier than you’d probably assume. Your jaw goes loose because your muscles go loose. This isn’t to say that you mouth falls open (which happens to a lot of people), but it is the act of going loose that creates the problem.

The snoring solution is simply holding up the jaw with a chin strap. It’s not special or hard or tough. Just supporting the jaw is enough to stop your snoring problems. This should open up a whole new world of ideas to. You should be able to recognize that supporting your jaw will stop snoring the first night you use it and it should only take a few seconds of your time to apply.

The Top Excuses For Not Fixing A Snoring Problem

May 11th, 2009

I know you’re probably given one of these excuses because I hear them all the time from people. Whining best defines what this really is, so it isn’t the best thing to be doing.

1. It’s Not That Big Of A Deal

I hear this a lot from people that are in denial about their snoring. Naturally you’re going to assume it isn’t that bad, but how would you really know. Since you’re sound asleep when all the snoring occurs you’re never really going to have any idea what it is like and how disturbing it can be.

Sit down with your spouse, children, or roommate and ask them how bad your snoring has become. They have a much better gauge for your problem. They are the ones that will inevitably kept up all night listening to the sounds.

2. It’s Too Much Work

There seems to be this perception that fixing a snoring problem is going to take a lot of hard work. Most people that tell me this assume that they’re going to have to make huge lifestyle changes to get a grip on this problem. Even though changes to your lifestyle can help, it isn’t a necessity. There are easy ways to fix the problem such as the Snoring Chin Strap.

3. I Don’t Know What To Do

This is another classic excuse I get from people, but this probably one that contains the most truth. The simple fact is that most people don’t know what to do. There isn’t exactly much conventional wisdom available on the subject. You never see how other people fix their snoring problems because it happens in the privacy of their bedroom. You don’t learn about this sort of thing from school or from your parents.

Most realize that there is a problem, but without information to act on there isn’t much to do.

4. I Just Want To Sleep

I’ll be the first to admit that this was a big issue with me. I really crave my sleep and giving up my sleep to address a snoring problem isn’t on my mind. I have to get up early in the morning to get to work. I just want my sleep and I don’t have time to mess around.

5. I Don’t Care

There are a lot of people that genuinely don’t care about their snoring problem. I suppose if you live alone and don’t distrub anyone this would be fine, but if you live with your spouse or a roommate, you’re probably driving them absolutely nuts. Showing a little empathy to the people that live with you is an important part of addressing the problem. I think all of us were stuck up in the middle of the night listening to someones snoring before. It’s not nice. It’s one of the most frustrating things a person can do.

These are the top excuses I hear when it comes to people that don’t fix their snoring problem. It’s ashame because excuses don’t fix problems. All they do is make you feel better about not doing anything about it. Trust me, there are a lot of things you can do to fix the problem that I will talk to you about in a later post.
