Snore Score Winners Named

July 13th, 2009 Charles No comments

I’m sure you remember me mentioning the Snore Score before. It’s the snore contest where they give prizes based on how bad you snore. I always find these kinds of things funny, but you can win a prize where they do a complete medical analysis on your snoring problem. I know a lot of you guys don’t have the money to have such a thing done.

Here are the results:

FARMINGTON — It can be a real problem for some, but one man from Grafton is cashing in on his snoring skills.
Russell Rock is the winner of Fairmont General Hospital’s “Snore Score” contest.

Contestants like Russel sent in audio-recordings of themselves snoring, and Friday the winners were announced during a live radio broadcast at Alasky’s Furniture.

Fairmont General Hospital’s Sleep Lab teamed up with Magic 106.5 for the contest.

Rock received one thousand dollars worth of bedding from Alasky’s plus a free sleep study from Fairmont General Hospital.

A second winner was also named in the contest, Shelly Riley won the “People’s Choice” award and will also get a free sleep study from Fairmont General Hospital.

Organizers say the goal of the contest is to raise awareness about the dangers of sleep disorders.

“We want to have a little bit of fun but also to educate the community about how dangerous snoring can be-like stopping breathing. Sleep problems are a real problem for folks and it can affect the entire body,” said Rickie Harper with FGH’s Sleep Lab.

Another Snore Contest: Snore Score

June 23rd, 2009 Charles No comments

The Fairmont General Hospital is having their 4th “Snore Score” snoring contest. This isn’t some sort of freak show. They’re just trying to raise awareness of this problem that a lot of people suffer from. If you live in the area, you might want to stop on in and help out. There are a lot of prizes that exist (though they don’t say), but the main one is a free sleep analysis. That’s where they test out exactly what happens when you go to sleep. It’s really interesting.

FAIRMONT — Fairmont General Hospital is holdings its fourth annual “Snore Score” contest.

The contest focuses on educating the public about the seriousness of sleep disorders in a fun way.

FGH has set up a hotline and over the next three weeks, people can call in and record a message of someone snoring.

Two winners will be chosen; one by a public vote and one by the doctors.

The winners will receive a free sleep study, among other prizes.

The contest runs from June 15 through July 5 and is held in conjunction with The Jack Logar Magic Morning Show on Magic 106.5 FM.

Organizers say snoring can be humorous, but it is the most obvious sign of a serious sleep disorder.

“It is a very dangerous disease. Usually folks who have very serious snoring can end up stopping breathing many times a night-what we call apnea. It can lead to many other dysfunctions: heart failure, kidney failure, diabetes,” said Rickie Harper with the FGH Sleep Lab.

Call the snore line at (304) 367-7300 before July 5 to enter the contest.

People can vote for their favorite snore online, starting July 6, at the link below.

The winners will be announced on July 10.

On The Lighter Side of Snoring

June 4th, 2009 Charles No comments

You may of thought that the only thing your loud snoring would get you is a stress out wife, but you can get so much more than that. The North West Air Ambulance is having a charity event to help raise money to keep the regions two helicopters, which is important for medical emergencies.

They want to be able to find the person that has the loudest snoring problem. That’s right. You could be someone that always though you were loud, but now you can put it to the test against other people in probably the first competition for it.

Basically they’re looking for someone that records their husband (or wife) snoring and submit it to them. If you win, you’ll get a paid night at a luxury hotel with a guest.

I thought this was pretty funny: Source

NORTH West Air Ambulance is backing an “un-snooze-ual” charity event.

The charity is searching for sensationally loud snorers, and are also asking long-suffering partners to help raise money to keep the region’s two emergency helicopters flying.

People who try to sleep each night with a partner who sounds like they’re sawing wood are being invited to capture the snoring on their mobile phone or video camera.

A peaceful night in a luxury hotel awaits the winning wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend who captures their loved one’s snoring on video.

And for the snorer, a mini break with a difference awaits them, a night sleeping in a brand-new Mini Hatchback provided by Bowker Mini of Preston and Blackburn.

For each video sent in, Bowker Mini will donate money to the charity.
