Silence Your Snore – Save Your Life

July 9th, 2009 Charles No comments

(HealthNewsDigest.com) – New York, NY – Snoring is often looked at as an annoying sleep problem that often effects one’s sleep partner more than themselves. According to experts, snoring can effect everyone, regardless of gender, age or race. It is a health problem that has created a multibillion dollar industry in order to stop it. The darker side to snoring is obstructive sleep apnea, which snoring is often an indicator of. Approximately 100 to 200 million Americans suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), causing long-term health risks, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and impotency. OSA is typically characterized by loud snoring, and is usually under diagnosed and often left untreated.

According to Dr. Daniel C. Smith, DDS, the founder of the new Focus Center for Sleep Apnea and Snoring, “a person suffering from OSA increases their risk of heart attack by 30%. Our goal is to provide our patients with the most comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of OSA available.” Dr. Smith founded the Focus Center for Sleep Apnea and Snoring with Dr. Kathleen Anderson, M.D. based on that fact that OSA has a solution with medical and dental treatments combined. For one of the first times in medical history, both specialties have come together to give the best solution for all people without a bias towards any one kind of treatment. Both doctors recognize that people are dying from OSA all too frequently, and with proper screening, education, and care, patients can lead a better quality of life.

Get the Snoring Chin Strap

July 1st, 2009 Charles No comments

I thought I should show you where you can get the snoring chin strap. I set up a link for you and thought I’d explain it one more time, so you fully understand how it works.

Basically the chin strap wraps around your chin and the top of your head. It’s sole purpose is to provide support for the jaw area as you sleep. That might sound like something that is complicated, but it’s really simple. It’s also a very comfortable thing to where.

The snoring chin strap works because after the jaw is given support, it forces the throat muscles to contract in size. That allows the throat to open and provide more air room for your breathing. This is what prevents the snoring from happening. When there is more room in the throat, you’re less likely to cause vibrations and things of that nature.

How to Hack Snoring

June 16th, 2009 Charles No comments

I thought I should do a post completely on your ability to hack snoring. I feel sad for all the people that actually have to listen to someone that snores. It is a rough thing to have to listen to especially when you have to get up in a few hours to go to work and live a stressful life. This sort of thing only amplifies the stress and makes you feel even worse. The victims of snoring are the people that have to inevitably listen to it. They’re the ones that are up at 3 am trying to fall back to sleep, but they can’t and that makes them even more frustrated.

I remember my roommate at college had real problems with his snoring. Sometimes I could make it through the night without hearing them snore. As long as I went to bed before them, I’d be off into a deep sleep before they’d ever have a chance to make a sound. Those were the lucky nights, but often I find myself waking up in the middle of the night hearing it and not knowing what to do at all.

When it comes to hacking your snoring, you just use a device known as a chin strap. The way it works is that it holds the jaw up as you sleep. That may not seem like something important, but when your jaw is open it causes pressure on the throat area. When you add the support, it will cause the throat to open up and there will be less vibration in the throat.

It’s simple. Learn more here…

Wikipedia on Snoring

June 1st, 2009 Charles No comments

Sometimes I get curious to hear how other people might describe the problem of snoring, so I thought I’d take a peak over at the wikipedia site and see what they were saying about snoring. Maybe they had some interesting facts and/or cures.

Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping.

This is as accurate as you can get. Your air travels through your throat and starts causing loose tissue to vibrate in a violent manner. This vibration, leads to resonation (which is a physics term), and than you eventually break into a sound.

Here are the listed causes:

  • Throat weakness, causing the throat to close during sleep
  • Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in the muscles
  • Fat gathering in and around the throat
  • Obstruction in the nasal passageway
  • Caused by the tissues at the top of airways touching each other causing vibrations.

Yet again they hit all the main points that lead to snoring problems. Obviously if you have the tissue that just breeds the problem than all you can do is go the surgery route. A lot of people that snore are also over weight, which is just a matter of losing weight to solve.

The rest typically fall under the category of jaw positions. That’s why I always suggest to people that they should be using the snoring chin strap because it is the best form of support for the jaw. It will open up the airways and stop you from snoring.

Snoring Burns More Calories

May 27th, 2009 Charles No comments

Well, if there was a positive thing to post about snoring, it is that it has been linked to increased calories being burned while you sleep. You can view the news report on it here. If you would of told me that snoring can help you lose weight, I would of laughed at you.

Apparently what they did was measure people’s oxygen use and CO2 production, which is a very good indication of how many calories you are burning. Obviously if your body is working harder, it is going to need much more oxygen to function and that means it is going to produce more CO2. So monitoring these things gives a very good indication. The people that snore produce more of each and that is why you burn more calories.

On average, people that snore burn 23% more calories each day than those that do not snore.

It is important to note that this isn’t something you necessarily want to have though. The fact is that most people that are overweight will start snoring just by the pressure the extra fat puts on the body. It is an unhealthy thing and you shouldn’t have a goal of snoring. At least that’s the point I want to make.

Does Obesity Cause Snoring?

May 22nd, 2009 Charles No comments

Obviously it does. The throat area is where the sounds of snoring are created. The tissue in their starts to vibrate and you get those sounds that you hear. The reason that this happens when you’re obese is that you end up getting a double chin. It is all this extra fat pushing in on your throat that leads to the problem. It’s an unfortunate side effect for being negligent with your health to begin with.

Obviously losing weight is about the best thing you can do to stop snoring. As you start melting the fat off your body, it will take a lot of the pressure off your throat and allow your airways to open up. It’s really quite simple physics, but the real issue is that losing weight takes a lot of time and a lot of hard work.

A Chin Strap should be able to help you out in the meantime. It will take you 6-12 months to lose any significant amount of weight and often you don’t want to have to wait that long. A chin strap is designed to help orient your jaw and this opens up your throat area automatically. The chin strap can also be effective if you’re really not interesting in losing weight. It’s unfortunate if that is the case, but I do understand that it takes a lot of hard work and a significant lifestyle change.

Are Ear Plugs Really Necessary For Snoring?

May 20th, 2009 Charles No comments

If you’re lying in bed next to a snoring husband or a snoring wife, you’re probably looking for a way to not listen to this. Obviously you have two ways of achieving this. You can either fix their problem or limit your hearing ability. I find it funny that people will resort to using ear plugs just to avoid some show down with the person that is actually making the noise. Well, I suppose this happens because people don’t realize how easy it can be to fix this problem.

Confrontation can be tough, but really you should be able to solve this problem for them. The snoring can be stopped in as little as 5 seconds of their time, so you shouldn’t have a problem investing in a device that they could wear to bed.

When it comes to anti-snoring devices, the best that I have come across is the chin strap. This is a relatively simple device that is also known as a snoring headband and a jaw supporter. It’s really a smart device to get because it works effectively with snoring problems and it only requires a 5 second investment of time to put it on before you go to bed.

Give this device to your snoring husband or wife. Just tell them to put it on and they shouldn’t object to that because it’s just a small 5 second investment of their time. The easier it is for them, the more likely they’ll follow through with it.

How to Say No to Your Snoring Problem

May 12th, 2009 Charles No comments

notosnoringI think a lot of people out there lack the basic skill of saying no to their snoring. This is a problem that ends up plauging people for the rest of their lives. 99.9% of people that end up with this problem do not attempt to fix it. If you think about it, you’re probably driving someone nuts.

The issue is that you don’t know how to say no to your snoring problem. It’s so much easier to put up with it because you can just go to sleep. You don’t have to listen to it because it is your spouse that is going to have to put up with it. Either way you’re probably destroying your marriage because of it.

Let’s get one thing straight; you have to stop saying no. It’s time to say yes to a solution.

  • I’m sick of snoring – YES!
  • I want silence while I sleep – YES!
  • I want to fix this problem – YES!

Than what you want is a snoring chin strap. It is really the only means to fix this problem with the least amount of effort. It is probably one of the few methods that will actually work for you the first time you apply it. It is universally sound because it recognizes that the position of your jaw actually determines the amount of airway available in your throat. Obviously the more airaway you have available, the less likely you’ll be able to snore.

That’s why making the simple choice to say yes. Yes I’m going to fix this problem is going to help you beat snoring and live a better life.

The Top Excuses For Not Fixing A Snoring Problem

May 11th, 2009 Charles No comments

snoring_large

I know you’re probably given one of these excuses because I hear them all the time from people. Whining best defines what this really is, so it isn’t the best thing to be doing.

1. It’s Not That Big Of A Deal

I hear this a lot from people that are in denial about their snoring. Naturally you’re going to assume it isn’t that bad, but how would you really know. Since you’re sound asleep when all the snoring occurs you’re never really going to have any idea what it is like and how disturbing it can be.

Sit down with your spouse, children, or roommate and ask them how bad your snoring has become. They have a much better gauge for your problem. They are the ones that will inevitably kept up all night listening to the sounds.

2. It’s Too Much Work

There seems to be this perception that fixing a snoring problem is going to take a lot of hard work. Most people that tell me this assume that they’re going to have to make huge lifestyle changes to get a grip on this problem. Even though changes to your lifestyle can help, it isn’t a necessity. There are easy ways to fix the problem such as the Snoring Chin Strap.

3. I Don’t Know What To Do

This is another classic excuse I get from people, but this probably one that contains the most truth. The simple fact is that most people don’t know what to do. There isn’t exactly much conventional wisdom available on the subject. You never see how other people fix their snoring problems because it happens in the privacy of their bedroom. You don’t learn about this sort of thing from school or from your parents.

Most realize that there is a problem, but without information to act on there isn’t much to do.

4. I Just Want To Sleep

I’ll be the first to admit that this was a big issue with me. I really crave my sleep and giving up my sleep to address a snoring problem isn’t on my mind. I have to get up early in the morning to get to work. I just want my sleep and I don’t have time to mess around.

5. I Don’t Care

There are a lot of people that genuinely don’t care about their snoring problem. I suppose if you live alone and don’t distrub anyone this would be fine, but if you live with your spouse or a roommate, you’re probably driving them absolutely nuts. Showing a little empathy to the people that live with you is an important part of addressing the problem. I think all of us were stuck up in the middle of the night listening to someones snoring before. It’s not nice. It’s one of the most frustrating things a person can do.

These are the top excuses I hear when it comes to people that don’t fix their snoring problem. It’s ashame because excuses don’t fix problems. All they do is make you feel better about not doing anything about it. Trust me, there are a lot of things you can do to fix the problem that I will talk to you about in a later post.
